Alan Mcsweeny FCA

()

Alan was educated in Plymouth, attending a local school and Plymouth Polytechnic. He subsequently qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1982 under a training contract with Geoffrey Johnson & Co Looking to enhance his career opportunities coincided with the expansion of Nigel Webster & Co and in 1986 he was appointed a senior manager in the firm, progressing to director in 1988. Alan has a multitude of skills commensurate with his experience to advise his clients on all aspects of their accountancy and taxation requirements. As both a former semi-professional footballer and captain of Bigbury golf club it is not hard to guess where Alan's outside interests lie. By far the fittest member of the firm, Alan regularly attends the gym, enjoys watching rugby and has a large circle of friends to socialise with at the "nineteenth" hole.

Steven Pound FCCA

Steve began his professional life working in a firm in Kingsbridge where he qualified as a Chartered Certified Accountant in 1994. Seeking career progression, he joined Nigel Webster & Co in 1995, becoming a director in 2000. During his time with the firm, Steve has developed and expanded his client base with a particular emphasis on helping clients understand the financial mechanics of their business and providing more than just the historical numbers. An accomplished snooker player, work and family commitments now leave little time for this pursuit. He does however manage to find some time to enjoy the odd round of golf with clients and friends.

John Chapman FCA

John trained with a local firm and qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1990 after a short spell in London where he gained valuable audit and tax experience. Returning to his native Plymouth to work for Nigel Webster & Co in 1991, John has gained the trust and respect of his wide portfolio of clients with his informal attitude and common-sense approach. Although well versed in covering any type of client's affairs, John's specialties lie in construction industry and medical clients, particularly GP's. In his leisure time John enjoys travelling which he tries to combine with his other interests of motorsport and rock concerts.

Nigel Webster

Nigel is the firm's founder and retired in June 2016 and now acts in a consultancy capacity. Having qualified as a Chartered Accountant with a local firm Gerald Holmes & Co in 1974, he then moved to another local firm where he quickly became a partner. His entrepreneurial spirit then lead him into starting his own practice in 1980 and Nigel Webster & Co was born.

Client Manager

James Rothwell ACA

James qualified as a chartered accountant in 2015 and joined the firm at the start of 2016 as a client manager and is developing a portfolio of clients. James' skills are particularly suited to owner-managed start-up businesses where he will guide them through the minefield of decisions and registrations to be made in the early business cycle. In his spare time James enjoys playing for a local football team. James is also a Xero certified adviser.

James Brown

Having commenced working for the firm in 1989, James has progressed to a senior role within the client services team. He deals with all aspects of client needs across a wide range of businesses. He is particularly interested in assisting in business development through active involvement in management accounting services. James is a Xero certified adviser. In his spare time, when not spent with wife Jo and three daughters, James enjoys cricket, snooker and golf.

Carole Holmes

A mainstay of our client services team, Carole studied AAT to intermediate level. She produces financial statements for various business sizes and possesses an in depth knowledge of the solicitors accounts rules. Carole is a Xero certified adviser. Outside of the office, her leisure time is usually spent walking dog "Jazz" with husband Barry and spending time with her grown up family.

Beth May MAAT

Beth has become an integral part of our firm since joining us from school in 2005. She is AAT qualified and is currently progressing towards the full ACCA professional exams. Although involved with a multitude of businesses on a daily basis, she is a senior member of our audit and assurance team and and a Xero certified adviser. Beth enjoys horse riding and lives in Plymouth with her husband and young daughter.

Julia Williams

When Julia first worked for the firm in 1997 she progressed towards her AAT qualification. She then decided to take a career break to raise a family and recently returned to our client services team. She is well versed in dealing with all aspects of client services and and a Xero certified adviser. On a personal level Julia enjoys spending time with her family and keeping fit.

Mike Mashford

Mike has four decades of experience in the accountancy profession behind him. Having started work from school at Gerald Holmes & Co in 1967. Mike has extensive knowledge of medical accounts but enjoys dealing with any size of client. Our very own David Bailey, outside of work Mike enjoys photography and spending time with wife Janet.

Katie Lilburn BA

()

Having spent two weeks on a work placement at the firm in the summer of 2011, Katie was subsequently offered a role within the client service team in 2012 and is now a key member of the firm. Katie studied at Plymouth University where she obtained her degree in accounting and finance. She is now ACCA qualified having passed her final exams in the Summer of 2016, and is waiting on full membership to the association. Outside of work Katie enjoys socialising with her friends.

Steve Squire BSc

Steve joined the firm in July 2015 and heads the bookkeeping and payroll services department. He deals with all aspects of bookkeeping, VAT and payroll needs of any client wishing to outsource these important compliance tasks to us. In his spare time Steve enjoys spending time with his very young family. As a 3rd Dan and level 2 Judo coach, he also devotes much of his leisure time to coaching aspiring judo champions in local clubs and schools.

Mia Marner

Mia is the youngest member of the firm. After completing an apprentice year in 2013, she impressed us that much that she was offered a permanent role in the client services team. She is currently studying towards her AAT qualification, which she is due to pass in Summer 2017. in her spare time Mia likes music and socialising with friends.

Lou Minhinnick

()

Lou joined the firm in early 2016 having gained her SAGE payroll accreditation. Lou assists Steve Squire in our busy payroll department, working on processing payroll and assisting our clients to comply with their auto-enrolment obligations. Lou describes her outside interests as reading crime fiction (preferably murder), drinking tea and eating cake!

Our office would not function as smoothly as it does without our support team of Clare Ravenhill, Deana Treliving, Mari Floyd and Ruth Harkhom who are always on hand with a friendly greeting.
